ITIL®, COBIT®, PRINCE2®, AgilePM®

Dean has worked in the IT industry for more than 25 years, initially in application development and customisation and over the last several years as a Trainer, Facilitator, Mentor and Coach focussing on Agile, Service Management and IT Governance.

Dean has worked across project, process and governance domains, primarily with software developed inhouse or purchased commercially. For six years from 1998 until 2003 Dean specialised in service management toolsets, both working for a vendor and as an inhouse team leader/developer. These systems were always introduced as projects and started with extensive requirements gathering and documentation, through both interviews and discovery (or needs analysis) workshops. Later process work required further workshopping, stakeholder engagement, and system design touching operating system, data and applications layers.

Dean originally began training as a tutor at Canberra University in 1988. In 1993 he wrote and ran a range of MS-Office and MS-Windows training courses for Speciss College in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 1998, Dean lectured in Help Desk, UNIX and Communications for the Canberra Institute of Technology. During 1999 to 2007 Dean provided application training through both contracting and permanent roles.

In 2002 Dean undertook ITIL accreditation and began teaching ITIL in 2007.  He holds the ITIL Expert accreditation. He subsequently became accredited in COBIT 5 and AgilePM both of which he teaches on a regular basis.

In 2016 Dean completed the Management of Risk (MoR) Practitioner as well as Professional Scrum Master Level I. In the Agile space, Dean has studied DevOps including Agile Service Manager. Dean is also qualified in ISO20000 (Service Management), ISO27000 (Information Security 2017) and ISO22300 (Business Continuity 2017).

Dean most recently qualified as an Agile Business Analysis Practitioner, a valuable formalisation of his many years spent analysing and counselling businesses. Dean is a member of the ITSMF and ISACA.

In addition to his business qualifications Dean also holds a Bachelor of Telecommunications Engineering (B.Eng) from Canberra University, and has completed certificates in Project Management, professional writing and entrepreneurship.
